Relapses - and the Group

An early fear was that of slips or relapses.  At first nearly every alcoholic we approached began to slip, if indeed he sobered up at all.  Others would stay dry six months or maybe a year and then take a skid.  This was always a genuine catastrophe.  We would all look at each other and say, “Who next?”

Today, though slips are a very serious difficulty, as a group we take them in stride.  Fear has evaporated.  Alcohol always threatens the individual, but we know that it cannot destroy the common welfare.

“It does not seem to pay to argue with ‘slippers’ about the proper method of getting dry.  After all, why should people who are drinking tell people who are dry how it should be done?

“Just kid the boys along—ask them if they are having fun.  If they are too noisy or troublesome, amiably keep out of their way.”

Meetings are also accessible by telephone by calling (253) 215-8782 and entering the 9 digit meeting ID when prompted.   (If calling in by phone, pressing *6 should allow you to mute/unmute your microphone.)

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help others to achieve sobriety.

ABSI is an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous, which means that non-alcoholics may attend. Because of this, we ask that only those who have a problem with alcohol share. If the non-alcoholic has questions or concerns, most members would be happy to assist you after the meeting.

The meeting is typically held at the Olympia Alano Club, but is currently being held on-line until further notice.

7th Tradition

"Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions." - A.A.'s Big Book

Although on-line meeting overhead is extremely small, ongoing expenses still exist for our normal meeting place as well as for A.A. at our local South Sound Service Center (District 8), Area 72, and the General Service Office (GSO) in New York.  Money from donations through this site are placed in our group's (ABSI's) bank account under our treasurer's name, where they are held until our group conscience determines how the moneys can best be passed along to help our fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous.

CLICK HERE  to donate to ABSI's 7th tradition basket (link also found at the top-right of this website).

Donations are made through Venmo.  Venmo is a mobile payment service owned by PayPal.  Venmo account holders can transfer funds to others via a mobile phone app.  If you do not currently have a Venmo account, the link should prompt you to download the Venmo app and help you set up a personal account from which you can donate from.  DONATING FROM A SMARTPHONE/TABLET RATHER THAN TRYING TO DONATE FROM A COMPUTER APPEARS TO PRODUCE LESS CONFUSION ACCORDING TO EXPERIENCES SHARED THUS FAR!

The Alano Club, which has always helped facilitate AA meetings, is a separate entity from Alcoholics Anonymous and will likely feel the impact of being unable to rent it's room for meetings during this time (roughly 40 meetings held per week).

If you wish to donate beyond the 7th tradition basket to help the club, their address and phone number can be found further on this site.
